Joanna Lumley’s Greek Odyssey

On Tuesday night I glued myself on tv and watched with great interest Joanna Lumley’s Greek Odyssey. I have to admit that I have rarely seen on British TV (not least on ITV) a better travelling guide than this program. The producers obviously thought long and hard about the Greek regions they were going to include and how they were going to present them to the wider public. It may not have been intellectually stimulated but it included details that I have not heard of before. For example, my mother may come from Corfu and I spent there several summers but I have never heard of an area called Kensington. The fact that I do not belong to the affluent elite may have something to do with it, though. In any case, I truly enjoyed the program and intend to watch it again next week. Only this time I will try not to notice the nationalistic tones that obviously affected the choice of topics (e.g. Lord Byron).
